Are You “Good” Enough?
Heaven is NOT for Good People
If you died today, do you know for certain that you would go to Heaven?
If you merely “hope” that you will, then you probably won’t!
Do you try to be a good person most of the time? You probably haven’t done that much bad stuff.
You’ll probably make it to Heaven because you try to obey the law of the Ten Commandments? (If so, you may wish to rethink that cursed strategy.) Galatians 5:4 tells us that if you’re trying to be justified by the Law, you are alienated from Christ! Galatians 2:16 clarifies that we are not justified by observing the Law, but by faith in Christ.
2 Corinthians 5:1 “Now we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands.”
Have you ever broken one of the Ten Commandments? Sure you have…we all have! The purpose of the Law was solely to expose sin. It had no saving power – only the ability to help us identify that we are sinners in need of a Savior.
How many murders does it take to be a murderer? One. How many sins does it take to be a sinner? One!
Matthew 19:17 says “There is only One who is good.”
Mark 10:18 adds “No one is good–except God alone.”
Luke 18:19 repeats “No one is good–except God alone.”
When the Bible repeats itself, it is done for emphasis! You are expected to pay attention. Let’s try it again: According to the Bible, are you “good?” If your answer is “yes,” stop here. Go back and reread the above text, as you’re obviously not paying attention.
HINT: The correct answer is “NO.”
DO YOU WANT TO KNOW WITHOUT A DOUBT THAT YOU WILL GO TO HEAVEN?
The Bible tells you the only way to know for sure:
Romans 3:23: All have sinned.
Romans 6:23: The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
1 Peter 3:18 tells us that Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God.
2 Corinthians 5:21 says that God made him who had no sin to be a sin offering for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
In John 14:6, Jesus Christ said “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
John 3:3 adds “I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again.” The Lord Jesus continues in John 10:9 “I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved.”
Acts 4:12 concludes “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.”
OK, so how do we get saved?
Acts 16:31 “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved.”
Romans 1:16 “I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile.”
Romans 3:22 “This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe.”
Romans 10:9 “…confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.
Ephesians 1:13 And you also were included in Christ when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation. Having believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit.
1 Timothy 1:16 “Christ Jesus might display his unlimited patience as an example for those who would believe on him and receive eternal life.”
Hebrews 10:39 “But we are not of those who shrink back and are destroyed, but of those who believe and are saved.”
1 John 5:13 “I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life.”
In case you didn’t notice above, the Bible repeats the fact that to be saved, the only requirement is to BELIEVE that Jesus Christ died for our sins, was buried and resurrected. (That also includes BELIEVING Him!) This is your only ticket to Heaven, FAITH + NOTHING!
No amount of law-keeping, rituals, tithing, sacrifices, church attendance, church membership, baptism, repentance, communion, feet washing, charity, prayers to any other person, god or goddess, confessions, customs, traditions, door knocking, recruitment, etc. will save you. It is solely by God’s GIFT of Grace that we are undeservingly eligible to be saved.
The ONLY way is to BELIEVE Him!
Everything else will flow from true faith and justify us in the eyes of others. But we are deemed righteous by God only if we accept what He did for us, by taking our punishment on the cross at Calvary. If you think that you can make it on your own merit, you’re dead wrong!
Easy equations:
Sin = Death
Christ = Life
There are two types of birth and death: Physical & spiritual! Born Once, Die Twice; Born Twice, Die Once.
God has made our salvation so simple, yet many still refuse His saving Grace! People sometimes ask how a loving God can send people to Hell, or more precisely, the eternal Lake of Fire. He actually doesn’t…He allows people to willingly select their own eternal destination. Regarding the eternal fire: Matthew 25:41 says that God only “…prepared it for the devil and his angels.” Notice that there is no mention of it being designed for people, but if they want to go there, God will not override their free will choice.
James 2:19 confirms that even the demons believe there is a God, yet shudder!
Don’t ever forget: There is a BIG difference between believing there is a god versus actually believing God!
If you are ready to invite Jesus Christ into your life, you may wish to say a prayer something like this one:
Father, I thank You for the free gift of eternal life. I realize that I am a sinner and need Your forgiveness. I am sorry for my past sins and I wish to be filled with the Holy Spirit and with knowledge of Your Truth. I believe that Jesus Christ died on the cross for my sins and arose from the dead. I know there is nothing I can do on my own to earn salvation, and I place my complete trust in You alone for eternal life. Please make me the person that You want me to be. In the name of my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, I pray. Amen.
